Halloween Safety Tips for Homeowners

Halloween is a fun night where you have cute trick-or-treaters coming knocking on your door asking for candy. Be sure you follow these safety tips to assure you and your guests have a terrific Halloween this year!

Make sure your property is well lit.
Turn on your porch light and any additional outdoor lights to provide a clear path to your front door.

Keep all walkways clear.
Make sure all sidewalks are clean and free of clutter. Don’t run any electrical cords across the walkways and be sure all of your holiday decorations don’t block the path to your door. Park your car in the garage. Kids like to run from house to house, so you want to make them as visible as possible when leaving your house.

Safety first when it comes to jack-o-lanterns.
Consider using a LED light or glow stick to light your jack-o-lanterns. If you choose to use candles, keep them away from your sidewalks.

Keep your pets inside.
With all the Halloween activities, your pet can be easily frightened. Keep them safe by keeping them inside your home.

Keep your trick-or-treaters safe
When taking your kids trick-or-treating, be sure they can be seen in the dark. Add reflective strips to their costume or bag, carry a flashlight, wear a glow stick, and go with a group.

Don’t forget to test your smoke alarms
It is the start of the holiday season. Be sure to test your smoke alarms to insure you have a safe holiday season.

If you live in a neighborhood with lots of trick-or-treaters, you might consider setting up a table and chairs at the end of your driveway to enjoy handing out candy during the rush.

Happy Halloween from your friends at Cornerstone Properties!
